此《A naturalist in western China》（一個博物學家在華西）是英國植物學家威爾遜（E.Henry Wilson）的著作。威爾遜於1899年至1911年間在中國西部考察植物，他拍攝的大量照片成為當地的自然與人文景觀考據。此英文本出版於1913年，內含照片插圖100幅。

威爾遜在 1899年至1911年間，曾四次來到中國，三次進入橫斷山域考察。威爾遜被西方稱為「打開中國西部花園的人」，他一共收集了65000多份的植物標本（共計4500種植物），並將1593種植物種子和168種植物的切根帶回了西方國家。他引種了大量的園林花卉植物，其中有60種以他的名字命名。在他拍攝的照片裡，除他研究的植物花卉外，還有大量當時該區域的人文地理歷史照片，這些照片為我們對橫斷山域的綜合研究，提供了珍貴的資料。（介紹參考）

此書英文名：A naturalist in western China, with vasculum, camera, and gun; being some account of eleven years' travel, exploration, and observation in the more remote parts of the Flowery kingdom。此書在1929年重版時易名為《中國——園林之母》（China Mother of Gardens）。
