晚清中華面貌

此書《The face of China》作者是一位一百多年前的英國女畫家Emily Georgiana Kemp，書中記錄她遊歷中國（途經上海、山東、河北、北京、湖北、四川、雲南）後寫下的旅途經歷和見聞，書中共含60餘張手繪素描，彩繪插圖。此英文本出版於1909年。

書籍全名：The face of China, travels in east, north, central and western China, with some account of the new schools, universities, missions, and the old religious sacred places of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, the whole written & illustrated

作者的旅行時間分別是1893年-1894年、1907年-1908年。第一次途徑天津-太原-山西。後一次是從上海-青島，然後途徑山東-河北-湖北-四川-雲南，最終到達緬甸。她們的旅行方式是，火車、船、轎子、篼子、滑竿和雙腳。火車和船很少，大部分都是坐被人抬着走的轎子、篼子和滑竿，有時會下轎步行。作者沒有西方殖民主義者的那種傲慢和偏見，而是用充滿了同情，平等的心態來看待中國和中國人，她在序言中寫到「力圖忠實地記錄下我的所見，這樣可以讓別人自己去研究中國。」(文字介紹參考：百年前的中國人)

Emily　Georgiana　Kemp（艾米麗·喬治亞娜·坎普，1860——1939）英國女風景畫家。英國牛津大學畢業，19世紀末、20世紀初曾在中國遊歷考察，足跡遍布山西、山東、河北、湖北、四川、雲南以及東北三省，她還到緬甸、朝鮮及中亞等地遊歷，曾因其探險經歷被法國地理學會授予勳章。除了創作繪畫作品外，她陸續出版了《漫遊中屬土耳其斯坦》、《晚清中華面貌》等書。她是清末民初極少到中國旅行的外國女性之一。
