此《历代诗话》由清代何文焕编订。全书共十六册，辑录南朝梁至明代的诗话，如：诗品、二十四诗品、全唐诗话、石林诗话、韵语阳秋、山房随笔、夷白斋诗话等共二十七种。内容涉及作家作品评论、诗歌理论的发挥、诗人遗闻轶事。此为清乾隆三十五年刊本，末附《历代诗话考索》。

自南朝梁锺嵘的《诗品》问世起，陆续出现了各种类型的诗话，成为中国文学理论批评和文学史的一种重要资料。其中有评论作家作品的，有阐述诗歌的文学理论的，有专讲诗的写作方法的，还有记载诗人的遗闻轶事的，也有包括以上各类的或各有侧重的。清人何文焕为免其散佚，故挑选有新义可资考鉴的诗话汇为一编，并附自己的《历代诗话考索》。（介绍[参考](https://publish.ancientbooks.cn/docShuju/platformBookDetails.jspx?id=982802)）

> 詩話於何昉乎？賡歌紀於《虞書》，六義詳於古序，孔、孟論言，別申遠旨，《春秋》賦答，都屬斷章。三代尚已。漢、魏而降，作者漸伙，遂成一家言，洵是騷人之利器，藝苑之輪扁也。爰勒前賢之書為一編，間有管見，為《考索》若干條附於末。

何文焕（1732—1808），字少眉，号也夫。清朝嘉善（今属浙江）人，文学家。
