此《香雪庵》由明代许如兰辑。全书含两种：美人镜（分：论砚、评砚、洗砚、冢砚、砚诗赋、砚铭赞），怪石供（分：论石、宠爱、灵异、光彩、生动、声响、祥异、妖孽、奇怪、变化、取用、镌刻、前怪石供、后怪石供、诗辞、石记、石铭）。此为明代（约崇祯年间）写刻刊本。

卷前有明人谢士章序。谢士章，字含之、与苏，号石渠，明朝诗人、书画家，出生于江西省宁都县，后被宁都知县陈时言收为养子，亦名陈士章。万历丙辰年（1616）进士，与作者许如兰是同榜进士。美人镜取自《论砚》开篇“文士之有砚，犹美人之有镜”。

由于作者生前奋勇抗清，到清朝时，其著作都被清廷禁毁了，其生平几乎没人知晓。清乾隆四十年，时任安徽巡抚的裴宗锡将《香雪庵集》列入应毁书目而查禁，《禁书总目》中的《外省移咨应毁各种书目》《应缴违碍书籍各种名目》均载其名。一作《香雪庵集》，另一作《香雪庵》。

许如兰，字湘腕。合肥（今肥东县长临河）人。万历四十四年（1616年）进士，任光州知州，迁工部郎。因不附阉臣，出任绍兴知府。后镇守密云。转山西蒲州道，因密云民众恳留，未赴。历任苏州巡抚、广西巡抚，官至副都御史。著有《香雪庵集》《天然砚谱》《抚广奏议》等。
